A great bottom of the boxes

Leave it to the good stuff to be in the bottom.  Another wheat penny (although I do believe this has been my worst box yet for wheats) and yet another dateless buffalo nickel (which makes this my best box for nickels).  Gotta take the good with the bad I guess.

2010 nickels are finally here!

After 8-1/2 months I've finally found a nickel from 2010.  I guess this is going to be like last year for the nickels, with very few reaching circulation until late in the year.  It's strange to get more excited about finding a nickel that was made only a few months than to be excited about one that was made over 70 years ago.

Those things seem to be scarcer than hen's teeth nowadays.  The really sad thing is that the ones that I do find tend to be in better shape than pennies made within the last five years.

Especially when a child drops it on the floor.  Our dog, Ranger, loves following behind the kids - there's always good stuff for him to eat.

New boxes, war silver, and buffalo nickels

I started out the morning getting up early for fried pancakes.  Oh man they were good.  Got to see some old friends and we all had a good time.  Thanks Danny!  I think Samuel was just excited to walk around in the mud down by the river and catch a frog.  After that, it was time to hit the banks.  Turns out that banks don't accept foreign coins - so the teller gave Samuel a bunch.  He was so excited.  Then Jane dropped off her quilt at a friend's quilt store for a contest.  Yummy Mexican food was next on the agenda.  Then it was time for back-to-school shopping.  This was Clarissa's first year for this so she had a blast picking out her own crayons, glue, paint and stuff.  Everyone had a great time.

Well, I found all the wheat cents.  They were hiding in the bottom of the box, just like my cereal.  These were pretty decent boxes - here's to hoping tomorrow's new ones are just as good.

I've got to get up early tomorrow - never my favorite thing.  But my son and I are going over to a friend's dock for pancakes.  A good time of fellowship should be had by all.

My rarest circulation find yet!

I'm pretty excited that I found a 1938-S nickel tonight.  There were only a little over 4 million of them minted.  To put that in perspective - in 2000, the Denver mint made 1.5 billion nickels.  It's not like it is really rare or anything - just hard to find.

I came across a full red 1970-S cent tonight - probably grades XF to AU.  I just love finding coins as old as I am that are in great condition.

New box Saturday and a weird nickel

So, in looking through rolls from my new boxes - I find this weird, brass-colored nickel.  The one on the left is obviously a yellow color, while the one on the right is there for comparison purposes.

A dateless Buffalo nickel

Tonight was Jane's quilt night - so the kids and I were able to spend a little fun time tonight doing things like making chocolate chip cookies!  It's the little things like this that I hope the kids remember fondly when they get older.

Tonight I found my first dateless Buffalo nickel.  Time for a white vinegar bath to see if I can get the date to come out.  I'll post the result if anything appears.
