Bunco night

I'm not sure what Bunco is - but it involves women, money, and dice.

Tonight is also the first night of my last class.  I can't wait for the next eight weeks to be done.

Free Comic Book Day and Piano Recital

Sunday School Crawfish Boil

Quest Fair

Tonight was Quest Fair at the school for Clarissa.  She made a Light Bug that lives in theaters.  It shines a light from its abdomen to keep people from being scared and screaming their heads off.  Quite imaginative for someone in kindergarten I thought.

A cold front in Texas? In May?

So, after lunch yesterday afternoon I decided to take a quick nap.  It was 96 degrees outside.  I got up an hour later and it was 64 degrees.  I love it!

Sweet Berry Farm and Parent's Night Out

Today was Clarissa's field trip to Sweet Berry Farm to pick strawberries.  Everyone had a great time.  Clarissa and one of her friends enjoyed filling up my box.

After that, Jane and I enjoyed a nice evening out while the youth group at church watched the kids.

Quilting Night

It's Thursday - so it must be time for Jane to get together with her quilting friends.  I walked in there to get the kids and take them home - and all the women were asking if I got to give them another speech.  I let them know that part was done, and they were all very complimentary.  They must not get out much...:)  Seriously though, I do appreciate their listening - without them I couldn't have done this speech class.

Happy Easter!

What a beautiful day to celebrate our risen Lord and Savior.

Of course, what is a major holiday without a trip to the emergency room?  Yep, Samuel managed to impale his hand on a half-inch thumbtack.  He's not sure which is worse - the pain in his hand or the chewing out he got from Dad.  Either way, let's hope he's a bit more careful in the future.

Field trip

A couple of weeks ago, Samuel brought home a permission slip for his upcoming field trip.  Handing it to me, he asked if I would take the day off from work and go with him.  How could I say no?  Needless to say, we had a blast.  We went to the Austin Nature and Science Center where we participated in their Astronomy Program.  I was pleasantly surprised to see Samuel answering the guide's questions correctly - and asking some of his own.  Where would we go if we went through a black hole?

Got a new cat from the Austin Humane Society

Yesterday, the Austin Humane Society was having a $5 Feline Friday.  So, Jane and the kids headed over there.  Just as they closed for the evening, the kids fell in love with Mazzy - and were heartbroken when they had to leave without her.

So, while Samuel was at piano lessons this morning, I called over there to make sure Mazzy was still there.  She was, so after our bank run, we all headed over there.  The look on the kid's faces was priceless.

So, now we have this new, 9-month-old kitten exploring everywhere.  Absolutely fearless, this one - goes right up to Ranger to sniff noses, stands her ground when Saffron hisses at her - she might be the new alpha cat...

Traveling all over Texas

We spent all day driving to and from different quilt shops.  From Kerrville to Castroville to San Antonio.

We had a blast, but got back so late that I didn't have time to search any coins tonight.  I'll double-up tomorrow night.

Hooray for Friday

Pizza and Doctor Who with Jane and the kids - what could be better?  Samuel is really getting into the shows and is looking forward to the new season starting in a couple of weeks.  Clarissa thinks its too scary for her - but she would rather be scared with us in the living room, than alone in her room while we're watching TV.

A nice relaxing evening

Clarissa got her first real bicycle today

What a fantastic day!

It started off with a great Men's Prayer Breakfast at church.  While Jane and the kids ran around to a quilt store and Samuel's piano lesson - I got to mow the lawn.  Found out the bank is going to be able to order me a box of halves every week - I was really expecting that they wouldn't.

Best of all, Samuel earned enough this week to be able to go to the comic book store.  He had a blast picking out a couple for himself.  Clarissa wanted a Barbie sticker book - how could I say no?  Of course, I got a few for myself as well :)

Parents Night Out

So...half dollars dated after 2001 were never intended for circulation.  They are now typically minted in low millions, rather than the low tens of millions.  This makes them relatively scarce.  Scarce is good.  Scarce means they're worth more.

I convinced the bank to order me a box of halves.  When I went to pick them up today, someone had dumped most of a box there.  I doubt there's anything worthwhile in it, but I took it anyway.  Hopefully they will order me another box for next week.  They didn't seem too keen on the idea - apparently they really hate having them in inventory.  We'll see.

On a personal note, I've gotten Samuel hooked on Dr. Who.  We started off tonight watching the first episode from last year featuring the latest Doctor in preparation for the premiere on April 23rd.  He absolutely loved it.

Antiquing in Boerne

We all went down to Boerne for a fun time visiting antique shops.  Well, Jane and I had fun.  The kids had more fun running around a fountain and a gazebo than they did wandering through stores.  Samuel did seem to like the comic book he got though.

Marathon Kids

Clarissa lost another tooth

Poor thing.  She screamed and screamed before I pulled it - but once it was out she decided it didn't hurt so bad after all.  Of course, now she's all excited about getting some "gold" money from the Tooth Fairy.

Finding coins from around the world circulating here in the U.S. has always fascinated me.  Maybe it's just me, but I tend to know what I'm paying with - and wouldn't try to use another country's currency.

Record-breaking lows across the nation.  Record blizzards all over the place.  Seems the climate scientists from the 70's may have had it right after all - we're heading for a mini ice age.  Hey liberals - how's that global warming thing working out for you now?

I like the cold...

...but this is ridiculous.  The high tomorrow is supposed to be below freezing.  The wind chill is somewhere between the single digits and below zero.  Don't get me wrong - I don't want summer.  But then again, I don't want North Dakota's winters either.
