Thank you!
To all the veterans out there - thank you. One day a year is not enough to give you the honor you deserve.
This is far more than just a day off from work and school. To those serving, those who have served, and the families of our veterans - your service will not be forgotten.

This Old House
So, after yesterday's success with the electrical switch - I decided to take care of the toilet. A few weeks ago, it got to where it wouldn't stop running. It's one of those new-fangled ones - so 'jiggling' the handle doesn't fix the problem. The floaty-thing (that is the technical term) stopped being floaty. The water would rise, and it wouldn't.
So, I figure it's an easy enough fix - I'll just replace the floaty-thing. So, I drain the tank, shut off the water, disconnect the old floaty-thing and put in a new one. Turn on the water and get sprayed. Turn off the water. Find the leak, put on more plumbers' tape and tighten the plastic nut down a bit more (it's already so tight I'm afraid I'm about to break it). Turn the water back on again and get sprayed again - from a different spot. Shut off the water, find that spot, and tighten down a different plastic nut. Turn the water back on.
Another spot starts dripping. This is one of the two long bolts that hold the tank to the bottom part. Water off. There's a bit of water in the tank now, but not a lot. So I put a bucket under the bolt. I figure it will all just drain out when I pull out that bolt and replace it. As I am figuring out how to get that bolt out (it involved three hands and twisting my body into a position a pretzel would envy) - the second bolt starts leaking. I only have one bucket.
Did I mention the three hands and the pretzel? Good. Because changing out the other bolt involves doing everything backwards from the first one. I'm convinced now the builders of the house put that toilet in before putting in the walls around it.
First bolt replaced. Second bolt replaced. Reconnect the water. Tightly. I reach to turn on the water. I stop. I tighten again. I turn on the water.
Success!
Next time, I'm going to hire a plumber. I want an oblong toilet rather than a round one anyway.

Shopping and Home Repairs
Another fun-filled Saturday of running to the banks (one to drop off coins, and one to get new coins), quilt stores, and the comic book shop. Fun for the whole family!
A few weeks ago we had a light go out. Not the bulb - the light. I suspected the cheap switch in the wall. So, today I decided to replace it. Wouldn't you know? The old dimmer switch only had two wires - the new one had four. I finally figured out which wires went were - and now it works perfectly.

The week's finds
So, here is the rest of what I found for the week. The box of nickels was almost worthless - 95% of it was brand new 2011-D. Oh well, maybe next week will be better.

Kindergarten Talent Show
Tonight all the kindergarten classes put on a singing, talent show for all the parent demonstrating some of the stuff they have learned over the year.
I was so proud of Clarissa. She had a speaking part and did great! This is the girl that won't talk to anyone in public. She barely smiles for a camera. And yet she stood up in front of a auditorium full of people and said her lines perfectly. I was so proud!

Relieved
This new method is so much easier. I don't feel like I have to knock myself out every day before going to bed. Doing this is supposed to be enjoyable - which means I shouldn't be pressuring myself :) I get enough of that as it is.

Changing things up
It's getting to be a bit of a drag trying to make sure I search every single night and post every night. I'm still going to search the same amount (2 boxes of pennies, 1 box of nickels, and 1 box of halves) every week. And I'll still post a little something about my day every day. But...I'll only update my finds once or twice a week.

I seem to run out of day...
...before I run out of stuff to do. Looks like I'll be doubling up on searching tomorrow.
On a brighter note - 2 down, 6 to go.

Ran all over town today with Clarissa
We had a little Daddy-Daughter day. Lunch at her favorite place - Mama Fu's. Then off to the comic book store and the antique mall - both of which she enjoyed. Then we got the van worked on - and she was so thrilled to watch them lift the van up in the air. After that, we enjoyed a nice dinner of sushi - where Samuel impressed the sushi chef by eating an entire sushi plate by himself (truth to tell - I started getting him that because I was tired of him stealing it all of my plate). After that we went home and enjoyed the latest Doctor Who episode.
After all that running around - I decided to go to bed early. Searching coins can wait until tomorrow night.

It will be nice when some of the craziness at work settles down. But then again - it's always like this to some extent.

Cotton Cupboard night
It's Thursday night, so it must be time for Jane to go to the Cotton Cupboard for quilt time with her friends. I picked up some of their new Presencia thread for a cross stitch project. We'll see how it goes, but I think I'll like using it - even if it is a bit pricier than regular floss.
I'll be back tomorrow night with more search results.

Visit to the Capitol
I took the kids down to the Capitol today. We all had a great time visiting with our Representative and seeing the sights. Samuel and Clarissa both enjoyed eating chicken fried steak in the Capitol Cafeteria. It's hard to believe that Samuel can eat as much as I can.
I'll post search results tomorrow night.

Bunco night
I'm not sure what Bunco is - but it involves women, money, and dice.
Tonight is also the first night of my last class. I can't wait for the next eight weeks to be done.
Going straight to bed tonight - I'll double up tomorrow on the coin searching.

Free Comic Book Day and Piano Recital
Samuel sure had a busy day today. He started off the day with a piano lesson, went straight into 2 hours at a comic book store for Free Comic Book Day, and followed it up with a full-blown piano recital at church.

Quest Fair
Tonight was Quest Fair at the school for Clarissa. She made a Light Bug that lives in theaters. It shines a light from its abdomen to keep people from being scared and screaming their heads off. Quite imaginative for someone in kindergarten I thought.
